CEIAG Overview

Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)

The Inclusive Education Trust is committed to raising the aspirations and ambitions of all its students, improving their eventual employability and life chances by providing a planned programme of careers education; individual advice and guidance; and work related learning for all students in Years 7-11.

The Trust is committed to independent and impartial guidance. To address this the Trust employs a Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) Teacher. This role is currently shared with Wey Valley College and Reigate Valley College as well as other local projects as part of a joint agreement between the schools to deliver impartial careers information, advice and guidance.

"High-quality careers guidance helps pupils to be well prepared for the next steps in their education."

Ofsted 2018

Careers education helps young people to develop the knowledge, confidence and skills that they need to make well-informed, carefully considered choices and plans that enable them to progress smoothly into further learning and work, and to help them manage their careers and sustain employability throughout their lives.

Careers education, combined with effective information, advice and guidance, is critical to young people’s educational career in:

  • Avoiding disengagement during key stage 3;
  • Choosing KS4 options;
  • Helping to avoid underachievement or disengagement during key stage 4;
  • Choosing appropriate post-16 and post-18 destinations.

Careers education also draws on and contributes to the whole school curricular development of students’ employability skills which are listed below:

  • Self-management;
  • Team working;
  • Business and customer awareness;
  • Problem solving;
  • Communication and literacy;
  • Application of numeracy;
  • Application of information technology.

Our CEIAG programme is based around the principles of developing employability skills, taking into consideration the CDI (Career Development Institute) framework and the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Gatsby Benchmarks

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning from career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experience of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance

CDI Framework

The aims of careers and employability at the school address six areas of learning:

Grow throughout life

Explore possibilities

Manage career

Create opportunities

Balance life and work

See the big picture
